Here we go again...

Our beloved southwest doesn't fly GJT...

There are only 6 airlines servicing Grand Junction:

Delta: Bike fee $200
Allegiant: Doesn't fly from PIT
American: Bike fee $150
United: Bike fee $100
US Air: Bike fee $200
Continental starting May 1: Bike fee $100

That being said, southwest is still only charging $50 for a bike and is flying NONSTOP roundtrip to Denver for $334 as we speak. Perhaps we wanna reconsider?

"Layover" loses it's negative connotation

My mom just sent me this pic taken at the Denver International Airport...
Lets make sure our layover is substantial.....

An Open Letter to "P"

Due to the influx of complaints on behalf of "P" I now realize that "P" is a VIP and has been officially invited to accompany the MoB on mancation.  I publicly apologize for my error and any discourtesy that accompanied my rejection.  Heretofore, you have been added as an author to this blog and upon your acceptance of that authorship invite you shall be granted full permissions to said blog.

Please find it in your heart to forgive a foolish old man.

P,

Thank you for the opportunity to have you accompany us on our epic journey.

While we appreciate your enthusiasm you have shown to join us in the pilgrimage to our holy land.  We sincerely regret to inform you that, at this time, no new applications are being accepted.  Your information, however, will be kept on file.  In the event that an appropriate opening becomes available, we will not hesitate to promptly contact you.

We appreciate the time you invested into contacting us.  You have our best wishes for success in joining another adventurous group of drunken mountain bikers on a trip to Utah.

Very truly yours,
MOABorBusts applications department

I'M IN!

I'm definitely good to go! Saturday Sept 17th through the Sunday the 25th.
I've notified my boss that I will be taking that week off, unfortunately I can't really extend beyond the one week except maybe a half day on the 16th but that would be about it.
I guess with that limited time an airplane ride is in my future....sux I really wanted to have the time to drive out!

Pond Skim

I know, it's 4 weeks away but......  I was just checking out the map for the backpacking/pondskim weekend.  Not really sure how long of a hike everyone is up for.

Options are extensive but the highlights are:

Friday:

Park @ mile marker 19
Camp @ mile marker 18.5 or 24.5

Sat:

Hike to Pond Skim (approx mile marker 27.5)
Camp @ mile marker 24.5 or 32 (3 or 4.5 drunken miles)

Sun:

Hike to car @ 7springs parking lot or mile marker 32 or mile marker 39ish.

UPDATE:  The foot bridge over the turnpike has been removed and hikers must take an 8.3 mile detour (map)

Amassa Back

Just killing some time while I eat lunch by watching Moab videos...

If you haven't watched the amassa back video, you need to.  Especially the "bloopers" at the end.  That big drop into the sand looks epic.

Amassa Trail Page

Anyone getting excited for mountain bike season????
