Who wants to go to Denver?

OK, did some homework on plane tickets. Sample itineraries as follows...

Continental Airlines to Grand Junction:
9/17: Depart PIT 6:25AM, Arrive GJT 10:45AM
Layover in Chicago, travel time 6:55
9/25: Depart GJT 12:49 PM, Arrive PIT 7:26PM
Layover in Denver, travel time 4:37
Checked bags: $25 each way
Bike Fee: $100 each way
Ticket and taxes $2536 for 5

Assuming 1 checked bag and 1 bike per dude, total is $3786 or $757 pp

Southwest to Denver:

9/17: Depart PIT 6:15AM, Arrive DEN 7:15AM
NONSTOP FLIGHT, 3:20
9/25: Depart DEN 1:15PM, Arrive PIT 10:10PM
Layover in Chicago, travel time 6:55
Checked bags: FREE.99 for 2
Bike Fee: $50 each way
Ticket and taxes $1825 for 5

1 or 2 bags, 1 bike X 5 dudes: $2325 or $465 per dude.

In addition to how Southwest not only tolerated, but seemingly encouraged, our efforts to be obnoxious drunks and gamble openly on the plane across the United States; we get a nonstop outbound flight and a trip savings of $1460, which would pay for both rental vans AND a shit ton of beer.

I hereby make a motion to fly to Denver.

All those in favor?

  3. Absolutely!! I don't mind a little road trip especially if that means I keep some cash in my pocket!

Straitiff is breaking the rules of calling shotgun. You mist be able to see the car. Says so right here.

  4. OK, Motion to fly in and out of denver has been moved, seconded, and adopted by majority vote. Next item of business: purchase of said tickets. If we're cool with that itinerary, the flight numbers are 1217 for the departing and 2272/844 for the return, and we can all just go buy our tickets. I'm taking Monday off regardless, but if 10pm is too late for anyone to get in Sunday, there are earlier flights, but keep in mind we have a four hour drive from GJ to the airport. There is also a nonstop return flight (#601) landing at 11:45pm. Thoughts?

As far as shotgun is concerned, illegal moves or not, we still have to rock paper scissors to see which two HAVE to drive and which three get to drink all the way to Grand Junction, and the cooler is in the back seat.

By the way, who the fuck is "Mike"?

  5. #1) the line of site rule only applies "when the passengers are outside for a long time and have traveled long distances from the car"

#2) if I rent the car then do I automatically get shotgun due to the "owner-driver switch" rule... Ha, ha.....

Has anyone heard from a Leavitt about the proposed new iternary?

  6. There is also that direct flight back for the same price of $184.
    #601 leave denver 6:35pm arrive pittsburgh 11:45pm

arriving 11:45 vs 10:10 isn't that bad considering we have an additional 6 hours in CO that would give us time to drive back to Denver and not have to leave at the ass crack of dawn.

Either way is ok with me.

  7. ok, chuck said "floriday" and o'har said "ass crack" my day is complete, goodnight.

  8. The 601 sounds good to me. Time to buy?

  9. If we have agreement then I believe it is time to buy:
    Saturday 9/17/2011
    Flight# 1217 Leave PIT 6:15AM Arrive DEN 7:35AM

    Sunday 9/25/2011
    Flight# 601 leave DEN 6:35PM Arrive PIT 11:45PM

Looks like the total will come to $354.40.

I imagine that we pay bike fees when we check-in, right?

  10. Works for me. You are correct on the bike fees as well. Straitiff, good for you? I talked to chris last night, he's flying round trip out of SLC because the rental car company is gonna jack him with fees for renting in Vegas and returning in CO, so we don't need to worry about him. Sounded as though Chuck was on board, but we may wanna double check.

  11. PURCHASED!!
    I'm going to Moab bitches!!

  12. PURCHASED! Now we need to make sure O'Har and Chuck know how to play liars poker...

  13. If they don't already know how to play I prefer that they learn as we play so I can recoup some of my losses from last year.

Now I just need to cancel Stewie-2 and book Stewie-3. Do we really need 2 cars or can we bike rack/roof rack and squeeze everyone into 1 mini? We may have some bike assembly time in the denver airport parking garage while we wait for Jon to arrive.

Do we have a bike rack? Rietscha are you taking yours to Vegas? Jon, Chuck mentioned that you have a rack and could possibly offer it's services for this trip. Is this true?

Whew, trip planning went into turbo mode this morning.

  14. We'll definitely need 2 vehicles. Chris was talking renting a mini for the week, so we could get one mini for the week and just rent a compact car for a day to get from Denver to the rendezvous in grand junction?

  15. So, Chris is meeting us in Grand Junction? Is he meeting us on 9/17? Should Chuck and Jon book a 3 bed room so we all have somewhere soft to sleep?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I talked to Chris last night, he is still ironing out his details for the week. He will be meeting us in GJ on Sunday 9/18 and has rented a full size SUV for the week. We can just rent a car for a day each way to get the 5 of us to and from Denver/GJ. Hotels: When I made the intial reservation, there were no 3 bed rooms available, so as it stands now, we have a 2 double bed room booked Saturday for 5 guys. The following weekend we have a 3 double booked for 5 or 6 guys, depending on whether Chris sticks around for that leg. Maybe another 2 double room for all 3 nights and a guy on an air mattress in each room? Or we could try a different hotel, but we'll be giving up the monster breakfast spread. Whew, this got complicated in a hurry...

  17. PURCHASED!!!
I'm going to ...Salt lake City???

Oh well, I'll just tour the Great State of Utah on my way to Grand Junction.
A Jeep Grand Cherokee(or comparable vehicle) is reserved in Mormontown and seats will be available for a reasonable cost.

  18. Not trying to be a pushy travel partner but I was just wondering if Chuck and Jon have booked hotel rooms yet? Rooms were sort of hard to come by when G.B. and I made reservations back in May.
